Salary: Band 8a TBC £38,851- £46,621pa
Hours: f/t 37.5 pw
Fixed term for 12 months
The successful candidate will be expected to work with the UK Spinal Cord Injury Research Network (UKSCIRN) Committee, researchers from UK spinal centres and international collaborators to develop collaborative proposals for clinical trials and other research suitable for grant applications. This post is supported by the Thames Valley Comprehensive Local Research Network and will be hosted by Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust the post holder will be embedded in the busy clinical environment of the National Spinal Injury Centre (NSIC), Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The NSIC is one of 11 spinal centres in the UK, each of which has their own research programmes and therefore travel to other UK centres is expected. The NSIC has a long and reputable record of publication both nationally and internationally in spinal cord injury.
UKSCIRN is a National Initiative to promote and organise multi-centre clinical research with spinal cord injured people to improve their health care and well-being. Our network was formed in 2003 as a national initiative supported by Spinal Cord Injury Centres, universities, charitable organisations and professional associations. Our priority is to build the number of UKSCIRN projects eligible for entry onto the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) NIHR Portfolio. The post holder will work as part of a network for researchers across the UK and will continue to foster a collaborative culture to facilitate the development of high quality proposals for clinical trials in spinal cord injury and improve health outcomes.
The role of the Clinical Scientist will be to work alongside the Programme Manager to identify funding opportunities and will be solely responsible for developing protocols for clinical trials suitable for making applications for grants. The challenges of developing collaborative applications will provide the post holder with a broad exposure to the topic of spinal cord injury and he or she will be required to bring to the role some familiarity of the specification and range of disciplines required for large grant applications.
